A dominating performance for the Deer Valley All Stars last night with the exception of one inning.   One costly inning with four errors plating four unearned runs.  Deer Valley lost the coin toss and became the visiting team so they batted first dictating the type of game it would turn out to be.   Our second hitter Stephanie got on by a ground rule double that was surely a triple if not more.   Stephanie scored on Tia's monster triple splitting the left and center fielders.  Chelsea lined out to second ending the inning before Tia was able to score giving us a one nothing lead at the middle of one.   Kristy took the mound and with the help of the defense behind her held Arrowhead to a single.

Top of two and Tracey hits the ball hard back to the pitcher to get thrown out at first and Tina duplicated the feat.  Two out, no one on and Torrie gets on first by an error from the first baseman.   Kelly walks along with the top of our line up Kristy.  Bases loaded, two out and Stephanie steps in.   A past ball has Torrie leading far from third causing the catcher to throw down to third to get her out but her throw is hurried and off line scoring Torrie moving Kelly and Kristy up.  Two nothing Stephanie knocks the ball to Center for a single advancing to second on the throw home that Kristy beats out to score.  Debra flies out to left stranding Stephanie.  Four nothing middle of two.   With the game in hand we're feeling confident headed into the Arrowhead at bat.  I guess the girls didn't want us to get lazy as fans so Kristy allows a single to the lead off hitter.  Our defense allowed the next three batters on via throwing errors trying to get the lead runners instead of the sure out.  The next batter hits the ball to second who tags the runner and then overthrows first allowing another run to score.  Another single scores the fourth unearned run of the inning tieing the game.  We finally get the ninth batter of the inning out ending the horrific 2nd.   Top of three and our girls are reeling from the last half inning going three up three down.   Bottom of three sees another scare as we allow two runners on third and second before getting the last two outs of the inning.  But that was a boost to our girls.  Stranding two runners in scoring position with one out.  They started to look good and picked up where they left off in the first inning.

Top of four and we bat six girls plating one stranding two but we're looking dominant again.  The bats are coming alive and we jump out to a one run lead again.  Our defense kicks it into high gear allowing only one base runner over the next four innings ending the game the same as the last one.   Deer Valley All Stars 5, Arrowhead 4.  With the exception of the bottom of the second and the top of the third innings, our girls looked great.  Hitting, fielding and on the mound our girls looked stronger and more focused as the game progressed.

After the game, the awards ceremony was quick.  A couple of pictures of the District 2 Champions and Tracey and her proud Mom and Grandma are available by clicking here. That's about it for now.  We head to Tucson and play Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday nights in pool play and then the top two teams from each pool advance to the semi-finals Tuesday and the winners will play for the state championship the following Wednesday night.  I'll be sure to update (maybe ever so briefly) the site as we progress through so you all know how we're doing.  It's been a fun and great ride so far and we're so proud of Tracey and all the girls Rich has put together for this journey.   It's a ride I won't forget and I'm so, so happy that Tracey is able to be a part of it.   Take care all and I'll be typing at you later.
