Our New Home
Phoenix, AZ

Carol and I went out looking at new home models in the area where we currently live just on a lark really.  You know, something that you do just to see what is out there.   We thought it would be fun to look, never thinking that we would find a house that we both felt was the perfect house for us when we would decide to combine our two households.   It just so happened that the first development that we drove into had a model of a home that we both felt was perfect for us and her kids.  But we didn't really consider it until after we left there and then visited a few other models that same day.  Nothing stood out like this one did and before we called it a day, we decided to go back and look at this same model again.  We fell in love with the home and this started us talking.

Our View of the Regatta Floorplan

Continental Homes Regatta

This is the Continental Homes development, Sierra at Adobe Mountain located at 35th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road.   The model that just talked to us so completely is called the Regatta and with the location being just over the Adobe Dam from Carol's current home, this will keep Tracey and Tyler close to their friends and we hope in their current school.  The school board is reportedly meeting this month to decide this issue, so we don't know for sure yet.  We will probably transport the kids to their current school anyway so they can continue there without disruption.   So, on October 23, 2000 Carol and I went in and signed the paperwork to start the construction on our new home.

The Regatta measures 2970 square feet and has four bedrooms and a den, two and a half baths and vaulted ceilings throughout the house.  The first thing you notice when you first walk up to the home is the tall entryway and the ten foot double doors.  This just gives me a great feeling before I even enter the home.

Once you enter through the doorway into the home you are greeted with a wide open living room and dining room with windows to the back patio and back yard.  Carol and I both don't feel the need for a formal dining room so we have decided to do away with this feature and make this area one big living room.  To the left of the entryway as you walk in is the Den that will be an office for me.  Carol says that this is my room and that I can do whatever I want in this room as the remainder of the house is hers ;-).

Shasta Pools design of our pool
Our Pool

As you can see from the picture of the floor plan, the kitchen has a center island that will be great for entertaining as well as added counter and storage space.  We will have our dinner table in what they call the breakfast nook and we have decided to go with the fireplace in the family room but not in the living room.   Carol and I both thought it would be nice to have the fireplace in there for those cold snowy winter nights that Phoenix is so well known for.

As for the master bedroom, it's huge, and I love it.  There is a door off the master bedroom that leads to the outside which will be nice and easy access to our pool that will have a little waterfall built into it on the far side.  The master bath is also very spacious and it leads directly into the his (shelf) and her closet ;-).

The lot that we chose has the front of the house facing North NorthWest and backs up to the Adobe Dam (that is no longer functional since they built the dam at Lake Pleasant).  The closest main road is 35th Avenue and is far enough back off the road that there is no major traffic noise at all.  We have verified that we will have only single story homes on either side of us and we will have nothing but the dam behind us that is restricted access so we shouldn't have any problems with people looking down into our yard and home.

On the corner of 35th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road there is going to be a 37 acre park with a playground, softball fields, volleyball courts, basketball courts and even a Phoenix Police Department substation.   There are plenty of walking and riding paths for the kids as well as Carol and I and we can't wait to get moved in and start enjoying our new home as well as our lives together.
