In August of 1964, I was born to Roger and Patty Gillespie in San Antonio Texas.  My folks then moved to Lincoln Nebraska where I was first introduced to my younger sister, Jocelyn "Julienne" shortly thereafter.

Virtually Me

Just in time for me to enter Elemetary school, we all moved to Boise Idaho.  We spent six years there before moving to Pocatello Idaho where I attended Junior High School, learned to drive and started going to Pocatello High School.  With a few months left in school we packed up one last time and moved to Lakewood Colorado where my folks still live.  I finished that year of school at Lakewood High School and then transferred one last time to Green Mountain High School where I graduated in 1982.

After graduation is when I started to explore the Phoenix area.  I made five trips to Phoenix on vacation before finally deciding that Phoenix is where I wanted to live.

I came to Phoenix in July of 1988 for my fifth vacation and basically never went home.  The timing of that vacation afforded me the opportunity to check out the area for jobs and living conditions.  I moved to Mesa and worked contract for a few months until I started in the Tax department for Circle K Corp.  In July of 1989, the writing was on the wall for Circle K at that time and in August I moved on to a local four corners area oil company, Giant Industries, Inc.   I have been there ever since with one major change.  I switched careers after my first year at Giant and moved into the IS group away from accounting.

I share my work and slumber time doing a variety of activities that keep me busy.  Ever since the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team came to town in 1996 and the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team came to town in 1998, I have become an avid fan of these two teams as well as the sports.  I have also followed the Phoenix Suns basketball team ever since I came to town and in addition to these sports I also follow auto racing, especially NASCAR and number 24, Jeff Gordon .

In addition to sports, I also enjoy going to the theater.  I have been a big fan of Broadway shows and musicals since my folks took me to The Country Dinner Playhouse outside of Denver back when I was a kid.  Some of my favorite shows have been Jekyll & Hyde, The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, A Chorus Line and Les Miserables.

I also spend my time hiking the local trails around town, going bowling, shooting pool, throwing darts, watching movies, spending time with my friends and who knows what else.

My sister Julienne and her husband Mike Romano welcomed their first child to the family on May 12th at 4:56 PM. Mikaela Janelle Romano weighed 7 lbs 10 ounces and measured 20 inches in length. Welcome to the family Mikaela and congratualtions Julienne and Mike.

I have known Carol Abrego for six plus years now and we have been good friends for most of those years, although she will tell you that when she first met me she didn't like me at all and there was nothing anyone could do to change her mind.   But somehow through all this we became great friends and she has become one of my closest friends.  Not too long ago her husband passed away and we continued to have a beer every now and then and go to a couple of baseball games.   You know, I find that it is a very rare thing to have happen when you fall in love with your best friend and the timing and everything works so that the two of you can pursue these feelings and emotions.

I haven't been happier and Carol and I are looking forward to a long and happy life together.   In fact, we have purchased a home to combine our two households and start our lives together.

2002 November - I moved on from Giant well over a year ago and I am working with a great group of people at VistaCare.  VistaCare is a hospice company that helps people live all the days of their lives.  I have met so many people at our sites around the country and they are a unique group of people.   So compassionate and caring and the take great care of the people they care for.   I feel fortunate to have met so many of the people that work out at our sites and care for the people the way they do.  It makes my work rewarding being able to help these people do their jobs.
